ABOUT US
The Raffles Institution Chapter is a formal Chapter (for former Raffles Scouts) under the Singapore Scouts Guild, under the Singapore Scout Association. The Chapter was officially initiated at Raffles Institution on Saturday, 29th May, 2010.
WHY THE CHAPTER?
Over the years, Scouting in Raffles has provided the boys opportunities to learn scoutcraft and to assume leadership responsibilities. Raffles Scouts have performed activities ranging from basic Scouting in school, overseas educational trips, camping and hiking both locally and overseas, and also assisting in various social work and needs. They have also achieved top awards given out by the Singapore Scout Association.
However, Scouts leave RI after finishing their 'A' Level examiniations, and the absence of a Rover crew as a next step following Venture Scouting further prevented boys to continue Scouting. Most proceeded for further studies to overseas universities. This becomes a sad reminder that their Scouting career had come to an abrupt end. After several years of studies and probably losing contacts with their old Scouting friends, most seldom think of rejoining the Scout Movement.
This is precisely why the Raffles Chapter has been formed. We welcome all Rafflesian ex-Scouts to join as life members of the Singapore Scout Guild and hence automatically become members of the Chapter.
OBJECTIVES
The Raffles Chapter follows the objectives of the Scout Guild. Specifically, our objectives are:
1) To keep the spirit of the Scout Promise and Law alive among members.
2) To carry that spirit into the community in which they live and work.
3) To support Scouting in the Raffles community.
4) To keep members in touch with each other through social functions.
CHAPTER FUNCTION
In line with our objectives, the main functions of the Raffles Chapter are:
1) Keep members in touch with each other through social functions.
Activities will be organised from time to time, giving members the opportunity to keep up with old friends and make new ones.
2) Support Scouting in the Raffles Community.
We have, in many ways, benefitted from our Scouting experience in Raffles Institution, and in return we should support our Scout Groups in various ways possible.
The Committee would love to meet up with you through our activities to get to know you better.
CHAPTER ACTIVITIES - What can you do in the Raffles Chapter?
Participate!
Throughout the year, the Raffles Chapter will strive to organise activities for its Chapter members. Do attend them to share camaraderie!
Organise!
Are you an expert in your area of work or field of interest? If you are, we welcome you to organise related activities (talk/workshop/forum) for the Chapter members! Just contact us to make the necessary arrangements!
Support Scouting in RI!
There are various ways to support scouting in RI. To name a few:
1) Share your professional network/expertise with the RI Scouts! If you are able to help with any aspects of Scouting in RI, do share with the RI Scouts!
2) Provide sponsorship. For example, if you own a transport business, you can help to arrange or provide transport to our scouts when required – it will be most welcome!
3) Financing will be the quickest and easiest way to support Scouting in RI, as funds are required in almost all activities. Financing is, however, strictly voluntarily – if this turns you off, we’d rather enjoy your companionship than bug you about it!
